Methodology

How we research saunas and sauna venues.

Our Editorial Philosophy

A good sauna visit depends on what you want: a traditional public sauna, a modern harbour sauna, a smoke sauna or an aufguss session. We describe options using cited sources, then explain the tradeoffs.

How We Choose What to Feature

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Visit fit

Match the traveler, the sauna style and the decision the guide addresses.

  2. 2

    What is included

Check what an entry ticket covers, such as towels, swimming or cold plunge access, and stated rules.

  3. 3

    Hours and access

Distinguish published opening hours and session types from live availability.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented visits
  • ✗Unverified guarantees

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:

  1. 1. Sauna venues and operators

Official descriptions, opening hours, prices and house rules

  2. 2. City and tourism offices

Official visitor information and cultural context

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published context with an identifiable source and date

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the venue page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
